What kind of technical support will I get?

At Turning Earth, there is always a technician on-site who can advise members  on how to use the equipment, and on the best way to carry out a project. This isn’t structured teaching, as such, but if you want advice on technique they’ll be happy to make suggestions.

If you are a bit rusty, don’t worry, you are not on your own!If you would like private tuition to learn a new process then you can get discounted tuition from Turning Earth teachers and technicians. This costs £27 an hour for one person or £40 an hour for two people.

Glazes are ready-mixed by our staff with test tiles, so you can see how they will look on different clay bodies. Our studio assistants are on hand to load and unload the kilns, attend to our equipment, and reprocess studio clay, so to get started you just need to know the basics.

As a studio member you are expected to know how to use the studio safely. You must follow all the guidance in our handbook, and attend a full health and safety induction before you begin.

As you progress, you are expected to learn how to reprocess and reuse your own clay and to ensure that you minimise waste at all stages - this is better for you financially, better for the studio, and better for the environment. Please ask on-duty technicians to show you how to do this.
